Volunteer Committee Descriptions
**Please Take Note of Which Days Each Committee Works**
Admissions (Tuesday - Sunday): Staff and operate admissions gates. Sell and issue daily tickets and check tickets/credentials.
Caddies (Monday - Sunday): Handle caddie registration, distribution and collection of caddie bibs and provide assistance to the caddies as needed.
Clubhouse (Monday - Sunday): Assists the professionals in the locker room and the dining room.
Communications/Information (Monday - Sunday): Assist with distribution of radios to volunteers. Monitor communications between all committees and the golf tournament.
Driving Range (Monday - Sunday): Manage and control operation of driving range. Provide practice balls to players and place name placard behind each player’s station. Shifts start very early in the morning.
Golf Carts (Monday - Sunday): Distribution and maintenance of non-player carts.
Golf Channel (Friday - Sunday): This committee works with the television production crew and monitors the tournament leaders for television broadcast.
Junior Clinic: Organizes and plans the logistics of the junior clinic. There will be around 700 kids on-site. Patience is helpful!
Leaderboards (Friday - Sunday): Responsible for maintaining the “monster” leaderboard on #18 and smaller leaderboards around the course.
Marshals (Wednesday - Sunday): Ensure players are not disturbed during play; enforce crowd control and golf etiquette among spectators along the course.
Media (Monday - Sunday): Provide general assistance to media including: answering phones, delivering messages, making copies and interacting with the media. Some media/public relations experience is necessary.
Office (January - May): Beginning in January, office help is needed with filing, typing, mailings, faxing, copying, and other general office duties.
Player Refreshment (Sunday - Sunday): Stock and deliver refreshments on course. Shifts start very early in the morning and some heavy lifting is required.
Player Shuttle (Wednesday - Sunday): Shuttle players, caddies, and on-course volunteers between selected holes in a golf cart.
Pro-Am (Monday, Wednesday, and Thursday): Plan, organize, and run the pro-ams. Shifts start very early in the morning.
Scoring Tent (Friday - Sunday): Assist players after completion of their rounds, in the signing and verification of their scorecards.
ShotLink Specialists (Friday - Sunday): Operation of ShotLink system to measure distances, either in the fairway (drives and approach shots) or on the green (putts). Click here to read more about the ShotLink scoring system.
Sponsor Relations (Wednesday - Sunday): Monitor entrance into hospitality village and the sky boxes, and ensure that sponsors’ needs are being met.
Starter/Announcer (Wednesday - Sunday): Announce each professional or amateur golfer on the 1st and 10th tees during the tournament.
Transportation: Provide transportation for contestants, celebrities, and officials before, during, and after the tournament. Volunteers should be knowledgeable of the Birmingham area and must have a valid driver’s license. Tournament cars will be provided. This committee works a few days prior to the tournament, throughout the tournament, and the Monday after. **please provide a copy of your driver’s license when submitting your application.
Uniforms (April): Assists in organizing and distributing volunteer uniforms prior to the tournament. Uniform distribution is usually scheduled in April.
Volunteer Village (Monday - Sunday): Sign-in volunteers, distribute meal and drink vouchers, prepare coffee/tea, assist with meals, and serve as hosts for the volunteers.
Walking Scorers (Wednesday - Sunday): Record accurate hole by hole scores and statistics for each player in group and transmit this information via handheld computer. Must have thorough knowledge of golf, be comfortable working with handheld computer and physically able to walk 18 holes at a steady pace regardless of weather. Volunteers must work 1 shift on Wednesday or Thursday.
Volunteer/Spectator shuttle (Monday - Sunday): Provide shuttles for volunteers needing transportation to and from their posts, for senior citizens needing assistance on-course, and VIP guests needing shuttles from parking lot to clubhouse. Shifts begin very early in the morning. Volunteers will be driving golf carts and or shuttle vans. You must have a valid driver’s license. **Please provide a copy of your driver’s license when submitting your application.
