Volunteering at the Classic – ShotLink Specialists

Being a ShotLink Specialist is one of the best kept secrets of the Regions Charity Classic. Just imagine watching every approach shot on the final Sunday in a stationary tower 8 to 12 feet above the green on No. 18 or No. 12 or even the longest fairway of the tournament, No. 16. The best part of this is...no walking! But what is a ShotLink Specialist? First of all, ShotLink is a state-of-the-art "big brother" system that combines a high-powered viewing system with a portable data assistant (PDA) that collects and records everything from the location of the ball, the lie, the distance it travels and the time it is struck. All of this is transmitted to a ShotLink production trailer where the data is provided to TV broadcasters, such as, The Golf Channel, print media, leaderboards, the Internet and TOURCast. It is the job of the ShotLink Specialist to "shoot the ball" and then enter that data into the PDA. Read more about what the volunteers have to say and for more on the ShotLink scoring system.
